The YWCA of Niagara offers a 16-week culinary arts course in its state-of-the-art kitchen at Carolyn’s House funded by the John R. Oishei Foundation. Students learn basic culinary skills that span basic food service and sanitary regulations to various cooking methods. The class is taught by Chef Sean Male, a chef with nearly 30 years experience. Part of the curriculum includes the students’ participation in the Carolyn’s House monthly luncheon. Students will set up the dining room, prepare the lunch menu and serve the lunch to as many as 50 guests. Students also will have an opportunity to work for The Catering Crew, the YWCA of Niagara’s full-service catering business operating out of Carolyn’s House. Once students have completed the course, they will receive a Certificate of Completion and job placement assistance. |
